Hoarders
One of the questions I am asked most often is "how did you organize all that material for The Snowball?" Fortunately, I had five years to do it. I built a file room in my house to hold all the material. Now I'm trying to declutter.
My sister Elizabeth has referred me to a TV show called Hoarders. I've never seen it, but it's apparently about people who need interventions before their lives are wrecked because they can't get rid of anything. What's ironic about my struggle to declutter and deal with all this material is that it came from researching the life of the ultimate hoarder, Warren Buffett. He claims to have "not saved much," but if that's true, he created more paper in his lifetime than anyone except perhaps a U.S. president.

BRK- BUFFETT- Business Schools and Due Dili,
Buffett has proven reading SEC filings offer very limited value. Business schools should re-think what they teach. If no one reads more filings than BUFFETT how did he miss the GEN RE toxic balance sheet ? Why would he do business with AIG ? Why did his major bank holdings need FED bail outs to avoid going BK ? Why would he own MOODYS ? I thought he only buys what he knows and understands ? Did he really understand the business models or the balance sheets of these major holdings ? Despite all the inside info he gets from his Goldman S-cks contacts , despite being the go-too guy for every financial in trouble and in need of capital , despite owning 70 plus businesses that give him a leg up on others with respect to economic conditions , BUFFETT missed it, had no clue how weak the economic foundation really was. As a result BUFFETT has had to burn his brkville Madrassa manual, ignore his own RULES and use ,gimmicks, he poked fun at for years to generate enough DEMAND for brkb to get the Foundations out close to fair value. The BUFFETT - Gates game plan at this point is to get brka as high as possible by Fridays close to minimize the stock portion paid for bni. The Gates F is selling, in effect, odd lots, the past two weeks. Once bni closes I look for 1 BILLION plus of Gates F selling in 2010. Lets hope the Foundations sell above the FRIDAY close price range or they got way to greedy !!
hoarders
OMG i finally watched the show. actually i watched 2 shows and that was plenty. if your house ever feels messy, watch this show and i guarantee, you will go on a cleaning binge. on the first show a woman had 27 cats and 17 dogs. the house was filled with trash and animal feces. she only allowed the place to be cleaned up and the animals to be removed because child protection services was going to take away her children if she didn't. during the second show i vomited, literally threw up, when the cleanup workers pulled a dead cat out of the garbage that filled this woman's house. the cat had been dead for quite some time, but still. that was enough. i was done watching.
regarding Hoarders
AS - enjoying your book thoroughly. Being one inclined to take on a lot of paper, and needing about 5 years of work by my wife to be less inclined, you'll find Hoarders to be a very powerful and sad show. I don't think that you fall into the ugly situation of some of the subjects of the show, but it's interesting that their compulsions are so powerful...to the point that one did some jail time for failing to clean.
