the old shareholder meetings.
They didn't need the carnival to attract people.
It rocked.

I second these emotions!

"I don't like nostalgia unless it's mine."
so says Lou Reed.
There is always someone who was there before you who thinks of you as the interloper. The people didn't come because of the carnival, the carnival came because of the people.
carnival because of the people
sounds lovely ... and was true for awhile. by now, the carnival is there to bring in the people to keep the numbers snowballing every year. not that there's anything wrong with that. every impresario wants to top himself over and over with a better show.
that said, a lot of people do feel the carnival has turned the meeting itself into a sideshow. let's call this the "wesco wing" of the value investing party. have had my ear bent off about this over the past few days.
Meetings of yore
Alice, I do believe you are a romantic.
